About the Position
We are recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a prestigious independent fine jewellery and watch business in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-focused finance professional to support the smooth running of the accounts function within a luxury retail, workshop, and client service environment.
In this role, you will assist with day-to-day finance operations, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations, invoice processing, payment support, reporting, and general accounts administration. You will work closely with the wider finance and operational teams to ensure financial records are accurate, organised, and maintained to a high standard.
This role would suit someone with strong numerical skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience supporting finance processes in a professional, fast-paced, or luxury business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day running of the accounts function.
- Process purchase invoices, supplier invoices, and sales invoices accurately.
- Assist with purchase ledger and sales ledger administration.
- Reconcile supplier statements, bank accounts, card payments, and internal records.
- Support payment runs, expense processing, and finance documentation.
- Maintain accurate financial records, filing systems, and accounting data.
- Assist with month-end preparation, reports, journals, and reconciliations.
- Support stock, workshop, repairs, and retail-related finance administration where required.
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and external contacts to resolve finance queries.
- Help monitor outstanding payments, receipts, and account balances.
- Support VAT, audit, and compliance preparation where required.
- Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and financial summaries for management.
- Handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
- Contribute to a well-organised, accurate, and efficient finance function.
About the Candidate
- Previous experience in an accounts assistant, finance assistant, assistant accountant, or bookkeeping role.
- Experience within retail, luxury goods, jewellery, watches, or stock-based businesses would be advantageous.
- Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Confident processing invoices, reconciliations, payments, and finance records.
- Good working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Organised, accurate, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Professional and discreet when handling confidential financial information.
- Strong communication skills and confident liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactive, reliable, and solutions-focused.
- Able to work independently while supporting the wider finance team.
- AAT qualification, part-qualification, or relevant finance training would be advantageous.
